Natron's patented technology uses Prussian blue pigments in the positive and negative electrodes of the battery. Prussian blue has a unique structure and composition that allows it to store energy more rapidly and reversibly than other types of battery electrodes. As a result, Prussian blue-based batteries can be fully charged and discharged tens of thousands of times at very high power.

Unlike electrode materials in most lithium-ion batteries, Prussian blue, commonly used in pigments, stores and releases energy in the form of sodium ions, and its wide availability and low cost make batteries based on Prussian blue electrodes economically attractive. environmental protection technology.(Lithium - Ion Battery Equipment)

Regarding the application of Prussian blue in the field of batteries, in 2018, researchers from Natron, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and New York University published a paper on Nature Communications, reporting a Prussian blue analogue for high-speed and Stable anodes leading to high-speed, long-life and low-cost Na-ion battery whole-cell system results (I/II).

Here, a full-cell Na-ion battery with a low-cost Prussian blue analog in the electrodes and co-solvent electrolyte retains 95% of its initial discharge capacity after 1000 cycles at 1C and 95% depth of discharge.

In addition, Natron's electrodes charge and discharge through single-phase reactions within the stability window of this electrolyte. This eliminates the conversion reactions and electrolyte breakdown that limit the life of lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries.

This allows Natron to create the first battery whose chemistry does not limit the lifetime of the system, opening up new energy storage opportunities to support electric vehicle charging, renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, and industrial applications. In addition, Natron's batteries offer improved safety compared to existing technologies, as they are non-flammable against overcharging, hard short circuits, nail penetration and external heating above 200°C.

The high power density and fast charging times of Natron's unique battery technology make it an attractive storage solution for future EV power stations.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the availability of fast-charging stations, combined with recent increases in EV range, has reduced range anxiety associated with battery electric vehicles and may hasten EV adoption. However, high power fast charging stations are expensive to deliver electricity. One potential technical solution for fast charging stations could be to use stationary batteries to supplement the demand for grid power.
